One of the best things you can do to your body is building blocks for stronger cells in order to fight back against stress and aging. Give your body and skin a little love, invest time in eating healthier foods and start treating yourself with more care.
Even the busiest among us have to stop to eat so when you do, make your foods count and ensure they are packed with the highest nutrient quantities possible for the health of your entire body.
Here are six of our favorite foods that your skin and body will absolutely love:
This little fruits is packed with vitamin C which will stimulate collagen synthesis and keep your skin smooth, firm and prevent fine lines. Kiwi is also filled with antioxidants which can help protect us from cancer and heart disease as it helps our body re-build cells.
Spinach and just like other green leafy foods are incredibly rich in nutrients and antioxidants. A regular portion a week of spinach can help reduce dryness and, since it also filled with vitamin A, help your skin stay bright and young-looking! Vitamin A helps our bodies produce fresh new cells preventing the skin from aging too early.
Named the “fruit of the angel” by Christopher Columbus when he tasted them for the first time, this fruit can only be good. This non-acidic fruit is packed with beta-carotene and vitamin C. In fact, Papaya has even more beta-carotene than grapefruits and oranges! Our bodies convert beta-carotene into vitamin A which prevents cell damage helping tighten the skin and prevent wrinkles.
Rich in healthy fats, vitamins A and C and fiber, eating avocado helps your body create elastin and collagen which helps bind your skin cells together and maintain their firmness and structure. Also, avocado consumption has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease and macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness.
Hydration is key! Your skin will love the added boost of antioxidants, water and other nutrients this fruit will provide. Just like watermelon, water-rich foods are retained in your body longer, so instead of drinking many glasses of water, make sure you eat it. Hydrated cells means plumped skin which thus gives you a beautiful youthful complexion.
Not only are pomegranates rich in antioxidants, eating them (and applying products containing pomegranate extract to your skin) can help prevent sun damage. In a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, participants who ingested polyphenols found in pomegranates for 12 weeks experienced improved blood flow and oxygen to the skin, leading to improvements in their overall skin quality.
