Environmental Shield System review by Madison

For the longest time, my main skin concern was oil control and acne prevention/treatment. It has only been in the past couple of years that I have been able to shift skincare gears towards more anti-aging and brightening products. I love testing out new makeup, but it’s safe to say that I enjoy changing up my skincare regimen equally as much! So I was super excited to have the opportunity to test out some products by Murad.

Murad, founded by renowned dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad, is a higher end skincare brand dedicated to using high quality ingredients to combat anti-aging and acne. Prior to this, I had never tried any Murad products, because they are quite pricey. However, I think that skincare is one area that it’s okay to splurge if there are proven results.

Now, onto the products.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been following the Murad “Environmental Shield” skincare routine, a Vitamin C-based regimen which includes the Essential-C Cleanser, Advanced Active Radiance Serum and Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30. This line is meant to help treat and prevent environmental skincare damage which can result in “sun spots, dry and stressed out skin, wrinkles, lines and creases, uneven tone and texture.”

The first step in this skincare routine is the Essential-C Cleanser containing Vitamins A, C and E. First off, this stuff smells amazing. It smells the Vitamin C Vicks Candy, but better. I really enjoyed using it in the morning, as it’s super refreshing. It does a good job of removing most of my makeup in just one go, but I do have to use a separate cleanser for my eye makeup in order to get everything off.

The full size of this product (mine was a smaller size that is included in a starter kit) retails for $42.00 for 6.75 fl. oz or for $34.95 if you join the “Murad Healthy Skin Club” which is an auto-refill program. It’s not the best price, but it’s definitely not the worst price for the quality of ingredients you get.

Next is the Advanced Active Radiance Serum. This stuff claims to improve brightness, clarity and radiance with consistent use. Again, I was pleasantly surprised by how great this stuff smells and how comfortable it is on the skin. It’s thankfully not sticky or tacky like some serums. Has it completely brightened my complexion? It’s hard to say. But I definitely have seen improvements in my acne scarring and dark spots since I’ve started using it, so hopefully it’s doing the trick!

The full size (1.0 fl. oz – not pictured above) retails for $95.00, or $84.95 as a club member

Of all the products in the Environmental Shield line, I think the Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is my favourite. It’s rare for me to find a moisturizer with a good SPF that doesn’t break me out, but I think I’ve found one that works for me! This stuff came in handy while at Osheaga this past weekend. I spent three full days in the sun with no tan or burn to show for it. Of all three products, this will be the one that I repurchase for sure! Especially for the summer time.

Full size (1.7 fl. oz – not pictured above) retails for $69.00. Club price: $59.95.

Overall, I was quite pleased with my first Murad experience. Although the products come with a hefty price tag, the high quality and well-thought out ingredients make it worth exploring if you’re a skincare junkie like I am! The products are available both at Sephora and at Murad Canada.
