Travel Skincare Routine

For those who follow me on Snapchat or Instagram know that I am a huge advocate for skin care, and that I personally adopt the ten step Korean skin routine on a daily level. However when I travel I find it a pain to carry around five to eight different bottles, which is why after Murad sent me these products to try out I knew this routine would be perfect for travel. I am currently using this as I am visiting Toronto and New York, but I’ve also been testing this out for the past month and can’t wait to share my findings with you guys!

Review by Charmyn from Ko-morebi

I typically have a day and night cleanser, however when I want to travel light I like to use the Murad Daily Cleansing Foam since its mild in nature and balances out my Ph levels while reducing the level of oil on my face. My skin type is combination sensitive, so I like to use this since it doesn’t strip the skin harshly of its essential oils, and instead fresh and ready for makeup or moisturizer depending on my schedule.

I know, eye cream before your daily moisturizer?
I too was hesitant at first when I saw that eye cream was a step two product, but after testing the Renewing Eye Cream for a month I can say that more product is absorbed into my under eye circles.
The skin concerns for my under eyes consist of dark circles and a lack of collagen.
University can be taxing on the face, especially with the lack of sleep and a terrible diet, and in an attempt to counter this problem I’ve been scouring for an eye cream that reduces my under eye indentation and dark circles.
After testing this for a month I’ve felt that my dark circles are not as detrimental as before, and that my under eyes are not as drastically indented as before.
Out of all the products I was sent, I found the eye cream to show the most results since my eye bags are the biggest concern out of my skin care regime.

Since it’s winter my skin is a lot more dry, and I would want a more rich and dense daily moisturizer to prevent my skin from peeling. Especially around my nose, I find that area to be the most dry. Surprisingly this moisturizer is the perfect combination of hydration and comfort since other creams I’ve tried make my skin incredibly oily and sticky that eventually cause breakouts on my forehead. However, for the Skin Protecting Lotion it initially feels rich when you squeeze it out of the tube, but once absorbed into the skin it transforms into a light layer that protects the skin throughout the day.
With or without makeup I find this to provide the right amount of moisture without letting me get too oily throughout the day.
Till next time lovelies!

Time Release Acne Cleanser question.

Murad acne treatment products treat the source of blemishes deep beneath the surface instead of just over-drying your skin. Whether you’re combatting persistent hormonal acne or just the occasional breakout, Murad acne products combined with Inclusive Health™ practices can get you clear, glowing skin.

FAQ about the Time Release Acne Cleanser

Will the Time Release Acne Cleanser work well for cystic acne?

Yes! The Time Release Acne Cleanser is great! Extra-gentle, low foaming cleanser delivers a sustained release acne treatment while optimizing hydration to restore suppleness. Multi-active acne fighting system, featuring encapsulated Salicylic Acid technology, provides a sustained release that continues to treat acne, even after rinsing. Amino acids and Hyaluronic Acid bind moisture to skin while. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals to preserve a more youthful appearance.

Is the Time Release Acne Cleanser a scrub or cream?

The Time Release Cleanser is a gel cleanser that lathers and gently cleanses away impurities. It is not a scrub.
Time Release Cleanser

What is the different between the Murad Time Release Acne cleanser and Clarifying cleanser?

The Clarifying Cleanser is best for those with oily skin and acne. The Time Release Cleanser is appropriate for those with drier skin. So, depending on what your skin type is would determine what would work best for you.

Will the Clarifying Toner remove any of the time releasing capsules if I tone after cleansing my face with the Time Release Cleanser in the anti-aging acne line?

No, if rinsing does not remove the encapsulated Salicylic Acid, toner certainly does not remove it. It travels deeply into the pores.

More information about Time Release with encapsulated Salicylic Acid:
Multi-layered encapsulation system designed to provide a slow and extended release of Salicylic Acid alleviating the problems of skin sensitivity. This technology involves double layer encapsulation. Salicylic Acid is encapsulated in sub-micronspheres that are then encapsulated in microspheres. Upon application, the larger primary microsphere breaks and releases free Sal Acid as well as sal acid encapsulated in sub-micron spheres. The submicon spheres are integrated within the top layer of the skin (and “stick” to the skin due to their charged coating). After they stick, the SA will slowly diffuse out of the sphere. The SA will release faster if there is inflammation (Acne, redness) because there is a high level of enzyme (lipase) that can breakdown the spheres. Controlled, slow, diffusion of Salicylic Acid results in reduced skin irritation, and prolonged product effectiveness.

Blackhead and Pore Clearing Duo Review

Review by Siffat from Icing and Glitter
Review by Siffat from Icing and Glitter

Today I want to discuss something very important which we tend to overlook – skin! When I initially hit my teens, I was really careless about my skincare regiment. I’d forget to take my makeup off and never cleanse my face, which resulted in all sorts of issues, the worst being styles in my eyelids. Gross, I know. Thankfully, I was quick to learn that taking care of your face is the best thing you can do for yourself, so over the years, skincare has become hugely important for me.

I don’t have a huge blackhead problem, but when I don’t get a facial for a prolonged period of time, I do notice a few blackheads on my nose which make me want to rip my skin off (aggressive, I know). Getting back to the product – it’s a really simple two step process.

First, you apply the blackhead remover to the affected areas, let it sit for up to 10 minutes, and rinse it off with warm water. Then, you seal the pores with the Pore Refining Serum. I noticed a huge difference within two applications. The blackheads were nowhere to be seen, and my skin just felt generally soft and refreshed. I’ve also been using the Murad cleanser which is fantastic because it isn’t too harsh on my skin.

The Murad Cleanse | Foam, Polish, Tone – Review

20833497790_c36d7e2514_cThere are only a few beauty lines out there which garners a cult like following that transcends all ages and Murad is one of them. In fact, long before I got serious about my skin (hello, teenage years) I’ve heard the hype about the brand with its scientific, results based approach to easy skincare. Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out the Murad cleanse myself from foaming cleanser, to exfoliator and of course that very famous toner. Let’s talk.

Review by Gerry from The Bunnie Hole

Murad | Daily Cleansing Foam*

Size: 150ml
Would I (re)purchase: Possibly.

The Daily Cleansing Foam is a softly scented, self foaming product that looks liquid in the bottle but come out as a medium density foaming wash. My gripe with most automatic systems of this design is that the bubbles are never as nice as when I lather up myself but this one was surprisingly wonderful. With two pumps in my palm, I give myself a soothing morning cleanse that lasts as long as I want to because they bubbles themselves don’t fade away even when I’m massaging for a minute or two. Perfectly balanced, it leaves my combination skin refreshed but never dry and is a very likable option for delicate skin and it was my cleanser of choice when I had a little skin flare up with the super dry summer season (more on that later). Interestingly this does contain ingredients like lactic acid which is meant to be exfoliating but I haven’t noticed any particular results there. As a regular basic cleanser though, I definitely plan on continuing this into the winter if it lasts that long. I find even with just 2 pumps per use I am going through this bottle rather quickly!

Things to note: This isn’t a makeup remover and does poorly on that front so only use it for a 2nd step cleansing or as a morning cleanser. This is not oil-free.

Murad | Skin Smoothing Polish*

Size: 100ml
Would I (re)purchase: No.

With a soft moussey texture, the Skin Smoothing Polish uses very fine jojoba wax beads (no plastic in here) to deliver a thorough scrub. Now I’ve always said I prefer grittier products and while those are still my first choice, this jojoba based product is one of the better ones I’ve used in the category of gentle exfoliators. The beads themselves are small and rounded which means no micro-cuts (for those who are weary) plus there’s plenty of them in here to offer a satisfying experience without needing to use a ton of product just to find a few scrubbing particles. Again this has a soft rose like fragrance that lingers slightly on the skin but isn’t too cloying or overwhelming in the least. I recommend extending your normal scrub time by a minute or two as the beads are very small and to use less water to make sure the product really sticks to your skin. Now while Murad markets this to “help relieve congested pores”, I felt this functions more as a surface level exfoliator and my pores needed something extra.

Things to note: This product is not oil free. Quite expensive for a basic exfoliator.

Murad | Clarifying Toner*

Size: 180ml
Would I (re)purchase: Yes.

My favourite product in my Murad routine and the one that has given me the most visible results in the overall quality of my skin has been this cult favourite Clarifying Toner. For those just joining me in my skincare journey, my favourite pore-decloging toner has been the Clinique Clarifying Lotion with whom I’ve had a tremulous relationship for years. I find my pores clog easily and during those uninvited breakout experiences, an astringent type of toner applied sparingly helped to heal my blemishes faster and take down redness. Yet I was never a fan of the harsh scent and alcohol heavy formulation. Luckily, this Murad toner does everything my Clinique did without the alcohol plus it leaves me with a gentle (non-drying) matte finish which has been great for summer makeup. While this type of product is still not something I would use on an everyday basis in all seasons, it’s completely replacing my previous options for a breakout reducing toner when I need a little extra help. Used diligently, it does reduce the appearance of visible pores as well.

Things to note: While the alcohol is gone, why is the menthol necessary? As far as I can see, there’s no actual skin benefit to its use other than a censorial cooling effect which temporarily makes you feel like something is happening. Realistically, I’d like to see it gone. This product is not oil free.

After a triple product trial, I think my first Murad experience went better than expected. As someone who tends to be weary of cult favourites (there’s a lot of hyped up products that do nothing for me), the brand has proven itself to be a solid contender with well balanced formulations that are simple to use yet gentle on the skin. Murad prides itself on a truly scientific approach to skincare and while there’s enough variety for everyone, there isn’t too much to make you feel completely overwhelmed. I think it’s fair to mention that the Murad brand has received quite a bit of critique from the Cosmetic Cop (Paula Begoun) and I’ll leave the link to that series here but from a results based perspective, I found all three products to work well and the Clarifying Toner to be particularly excellent. There is a unifying aesthetic appeal to Murad products and while a few frivolous ingredients do slip into the mix I think it’s still a worthwhile brand to test out at some point. Start off with a basic product to see if it incorporates well into your per-existing routine before delving into their higher end treatment range which can be quite pricey. Overall, none of these three products are going to be life changing but I’m very happy to have found a new favourite breakout toner.

Blemish Control Travel Set review by Self-Explanatori

I have heard so many good things about Murad and was unbelievably excited to receive the Blemish Control Travel Kit. All three products come in the adorable polka dot travel bag pictured above, and since I’m obsessed with brightly coloured patterns, I’m a big fan of it. The travel bag is quite durable with small pockets inside, as well as built-in makeup brush/toothbrush holders, so you’ll get a lot of use out of it even when you run out of product!

I love that Murad sells a variety of their skincare lines in travel sets. They are actually the perfect size (not too big but not painfully tiny), and all come with the super cute travel bag. They’re great because they allow you to try out a range of their products without committing to buying the full size product. This is HUGE considering how difficult it is to get a decently sized sample of most non-drugstore skincare products. Not everyone can drop $50+ just because they want to try a single product out.

Review by Victoria from Self-Explanatori

Acne’s weird because it’s sort of taboo to talk about but pretty much everyone has to deal with it at some point whether its that one problematic pimple or a never-ending cycle of breakouts. I’ve been lucky enough to have pretty clear skin my whole life but I find that when I do suffer from a breakout, it lingers for what seems like forever.

Before we start there are two important things you should know about me and skincare:

  1. I have really sensitive skin. A lot of harsher products (a typical attribute of acne products) leave me with increased redness, and some just downright give me an awful rash-like reaction.
  2. I don’t like using spot treatments because they dry out my skin for weeks, and I find a lot of acne products tend to smell like industrial cleaning solutions. I’m not saying that I need them to be glamorous, but an upgrade from the gross medicinal smell would be nice.

Anyways, if you have sensitive skin (and/or sensitive nostrils?) this might be the product line for you! The travel kit costs $40.00 CAD, and I have included all full-size product pricing below. Another thing to consider is that Murad is cruelty-free meaning they test their products on people, not on animals!

The Clarifying Cleanser contains 1.5% salicylic acid and a lot of other complexly-named ingredients. From the words I can identify, it contains a lot of natural oils which is great because unlike most acne products, this cleanser did not dry my skin out. I was a little skeptical at first when I read that 92% of users saw clearer skin in 72 hours, but I actually did see a noticeable change in my skin (especially in my T-zone) within two days, and have had no breakouts anywhere on my face since. Here’s hoping this trend continues.

It hasn’t got the loveliest scent in the world but it smells a thousand times better than any other acne product I’ve ever tried. I don’t actually find the smell of this cleanser too overwhelming either unless I’m sniffing it directly out of the packaging for long periods of time (to clarify, I did this so I could write about it…I don’t usually smell my face cleaners for fun).

All you have to do is massage a small amount onto dampened skin and rinse it off with warm water (Surprise!). It’s as easy as that. It lathers really well, has a nice cooling effect, and there’s a slight tightening sensation when I rinse it off, leaving my skin feeling squeaky clean.

The Blemish Clearing Solution contains 0.5% salicylic acid and is also meant to be applied to your entire face, neck and chest. The first thing I have to say about this product is that I love how lightweight it is. It doesn’t smell or feel like a typical acne treatment. I find that a lot of acne solutions (whether they’re gel or cream based) tend to feel like heavy, unabsorbable face masks or again, smell so much like an industrial cleaning product that I don’t want to apply them.

This solution is a blend of vitamins that soothe the skin, support healing, and stimulate cell growth while offering antioxidant protection. I can’t really speak to how this product works on its own, but in combination with the clarifying cleanser I did see a noticeable difference in how quickly the few spots I had began to disappear and heal.

I have nothing bad to say about the Oil-Control Mattifier besides the fact that it does have that sunscreen-y smell that some people can’t stand, but I personally don’t mind it in the Summer. I use this product instead of a primer, and it wears really well under both liquid and powder foundations. It also keeps my makeup from melting off in the heat.

In terms of an acne solution, this moisturizer controls oil throughout the day as promised, and didn’t cause any new breakouts (a problem I’ve had with other acne solution moisturizers).

I’m not ready to proclaim that Murad’s Blemish Control line is my go-to, heaven-sent, acne-fighting product, but for now I’m definitely sticking to it and plan to order more when I’m done with my travel set! My skin cleared up in less than a week without any signs of dryness or irritation, and it didn’t take a ten-step routine to make it happen.

Another perk? A little also goes a long way. To give you a point of reference, I had used each of these products for a week before remembering that I needed to take photos of them for this post! As you can see from the pictures, they still look pretty full.

Blemish Control Travel Set Review

When the Murad Blemish Control Travel Set showed up at my door a few weeks ago, I literally could not wait to start testing it. I’ve only tried a few products from Murad, but I’ve loved them all. This set has a particular appeal due to it being travel friendly, especially as I always struggle with what products to bring with me on holiday.

Review by Natalie from Ivory Avenue

The set contains three products from Murad that aim to quickly eliminate breakouts and comes in a handy polka dot bag. I’m not crazy about the bag (who chose those colours?!) but there’s no denying that it’s useful.

All three products have a great track record for clearing skin, so the three together is pretty much a magic treatment. As this is a three step system, I’m going to walk through each product individually.

First, there’s the Clarifying Cleanser, which eliminates 99.9% of surface bacteria in 60 seconds. Thanks to it’s effectiveness, it helps clear blemishes and prevent new breakouts. I’ve noticed a great improvement in my skin since using it. The change was noticeable within a few days which is huge. Unlike most acne products, it doesn’t dry my skin out which is really great.

Next, there’s the Acne Clearing Solution is a blend of vitamins that soothes skin and supports healing and new cell growth while also offering antioxidant protection. It’s a great acne treatment that doesn’t smell or feel like an acne treatment: it really feels just like a moisturizer. It makes a huge difference at keeping my spots at bay. I’ve also noticed that my spots clear up a lot quicker than normal.

Finally, there’s the Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 which is a shine-reducing moisturizer that creates a matte surface on contact, while also control oil throughout the day. You can tell this is a matte product as soon as you apply it as it’s kind of hard to spread. I find it’s best to dab it down my t-zone and spread lightly. Luckily it blends right into the skin and is totally weightless. There isn’t much of it and I fine using it just on my t-zone is enough. The Oil-Control Complex helps regulate oil production throughout the day while still preserving moisture. This is made with willow bark extract which helps manage breakouts and clears the skin of impurities. It’s also made with Argan extract to reveal smoother, softer skin.

Once I realized how much I loved this trio, I stopped using it. Why? Because it’s so awesome that I want to bring it to England with me next month and I don’t want to run out!

Beauty picks by Natalie from My little secrets

Review by Natalie from My Little Secrets

One of the best things about blogging is being introduced to so many great beauty products on the market. To truly test a new product’s effects, it really does require a little bit of time. I was introduced to Murad skin care and spent the month giving it a test drive. Murad carries a collection on skin care products that are targeted to ‘making everyday better”. With product lines specializing in balancing combination skin, anti-aging, treating acne, and sun protection, there sure is a collection that is proven to assist with your skincare needs are.

I particularly recommend the Daily Cleansing Foam which is designed to treat clogged pores, occasional breakouts, and lackluster ton & premature aging. I am always on the hunt for a mild cleanser, and this one is perfect for daily use. It is also equally important to treat the skin on your body as the skin on your face, therefore, I also recommend the Detoxifying White Clay Body Cleanser, perfect for post-sun action. This clay cleanser draws out impurities while gently exfoliates and hydrates the skin for a supply and youthful appearance.

Environmental Shield System review by Madison

For the longest time, my main skin concern was oil control and acne prevention/treatment. It has only been in the past couple of years that I have been able to shift skincare gears towards more anti-aging and brightening products. I love testing out new makeup, but it’s safe to say that I enjoy changing up my skincare regimen equally as much! So I was super excited to have the opportunity to test out some products by Murad.

Review by Madison from Cold Side of the pillow

Murad, founded by renowned dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad, is a higher end skincare brand dedicated to using high quality ingredients to combat anti-aging and acne. Prior to this, I had never tried any Murad products, because they are quite pricey. However, I think that skincare is one area that it’s okay to splurge if there are proven results.

Now, onto the products.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been following the Murad “Environmental Shield” skincare routine, a Vitamin C-based regimen which includes the Essential-C Cleanser, Advanced Active Radiance Serum and Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30. This line is meant to help treat and prevent environmental skincare damage which can result in “sun spots, dry and stressed out skin, wrinkles, lines and creases, uneven tone and texture.”

The first step in this skincare routine is the Essential-C Cleanser containing Vitamins A, C and E. First off, this stuff smells amazing. It smells the Vitamin C Vicks Candy, but better. I really enjoyed using it in the morning, as it’s super refreshing. It does a good job of removing most of my makeup in just one go, but I do have to use a separate cleanser for my eye makeup in order to get everything off.

The full size of this product (mine was a smaller size that is included in a starter kit) retails for $42.00 for 6.75 fl. oz or for $34.95 if you join the “Murad Healthy Skin Club” which is an auto-refill program. It’s not the best price, but it’s definitely not the worst price for the quality of ingredients you get.

Next is the Advanced Active Radiance Serum. This stuff claims to improve brightness, clarity and radiance with consistent use. Again, I was pleasantly surprised by how great this stuff smells and how comfortable it is on the skin. It’s thankfully not sticky or tacky like some serums. Has it completely brightened my complexion? It’s hard to say. But I definitely have seen improvements in my acne scarring and dark spots since I’ve started using it, so hopefully it’s doing the trick!

The full size (1.0 fl. oz – not pictured above) retails for $95.00, or $84.95 as a club member

Of all the products in the Environmental Shield line, I think the Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is my favourite. It’s rare for me to find a moisturizer with a good SPF that doesn’t break me out, but I think I’ve found one that works for me! This stuff came in handy while at Osheaga this past weekend. I spent three full days in the sun with no tan or burn to show for it. Of all three products, this will be the one that I repurchase for sure! Especially for the summer time.

Full size (1.7 fl. oz – not pictured above) retails for $69.00. Club price: $59.95.

Overall, I was quite pleased with my first Murad experience. Although the products come with a hefty price tag, the high quality and well-thought out ingredients make it worth exploring if you’re a skincare junkie like I am! The products are available both at Sephora and at Murad Canada.

Note: This is not a paid or sponsored post. I was sent these products for consideration of review. The views expressed in this post are my own, honest opinion.

A Radiant Complexion, Happy T-Zone + Love for Murad Skin Care

Finding the right skin care products for your particular needs can sometimes be tricky. Firstly, there are so many product lines to choose from. Which one is right for you? Secondly, you want to make sure what you are purchasing actually does what it says it does! Right?

Review by Best of this life

When I am interested in a product, I try to read as many reviews as possible to get an idea of what I might be investing in. I am happy to share my review of Murad Skin Care today, because I have some good things to tell you.

To start with, like any good skin care line, Murad offers specific products for specific skin types. Identifying your skin type is the first step to take on Once you’ve done that, it will be easy to choose products that will bring out your very best complexion.

My skin is oily and sometimes prone to breakouts, however I’m also starting to see some fine lines. A balanced routine of anti-aging care and acne treatment is ideal for my skin type.

Murad helped me choose the right products to achieve a smooth healthy complexion.

First up: AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
Why you need it: This gentle but efficient exfoliator polishes away dullness and locked-in impurities. Provides clarity, brightness and improve cell-turnover by dissolving dead skin cell buildup Leaves skin smooth and hydrated. Jojoba beads reveal a smoother, younger-looking complexion

I love how light-weight this cleanser is, as well as gentle on my skin. After I wash my face, it feels smooth, cleansed, and fresh.

Next in line: T-Zone Pore Refining Gel
Why you need it: Clears pores while balancing oily and dry zones for a healthy, shine-free complexion
Primary Benefits:Dissolves pore clogging impurities. Normalizes oil production

This is an ideal product for oily skin and combination skin. When I apply this serum, it melts into my skin and tingles a little bit. It feels like it’s lifting out impurities and closing my pores! I’ve noticed a big difference in the oil production on my forehead and nose by using this product.

My 3rd step for my day routine includes: Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 | PA++
Why you need it: Reduces shine and controls oil. Effectively reduces breakouts.
Primary Benefits: This shine-reducing moisturizer creates an immediate matte surface, controls oil throughout the day while protecting blemish-prone skin.

I can’t say enough good things about this product! For anyone who wants a shine-free, oil-free face yet also wants an SPF and moisturizer – this is for you! This product does double-time, leaving the skin moisturized, smooth, and matte. I have applied it daily, with a bare face and when I do wear makeup, it prevents my makeup from melting off in the heat or from excess oil production.

Additionally, I sampled Murad’s Acne Spot Treatment, which I used at night-time on a few pimples. It reduced the redness and helped clear up the blemish by morning time. This was a great “extra” to my skin care routine for the odd breakout.

I’ve been using the products for nearly two weeks and have noticed an improvement in my complexion and skin tone. I’m very pleased with the skin care products that Murad helped me choose and am happy with the results that I’ve already seen.

Dr. Murad’s Skin Care Philosophy is about helping everyone achieve their best skin ever!

“As a dermatologist, pharmacist and researcher, I have devoted my life to making beautiful, healthy skin attainable for everyone.

A healthy complexion is a reflection of total wellness both inside and out. This, in turn, creates a healthy environment for the skin so that if problems do arise, they resolve more easily. Furthermore, skincare can lead the way to overall health. Take all the necessary steps to achieve healthy skin-including the right products, the proper nutrients (from both food and supplements) and positive lifestyle choices-and over time, your whole body will be healthier too.”
